FAQ

How do I register and book an appointment?

Upon completing the website enquiry form, we'll send a Client Registration and Consent Form (CRF) and ask for further details to your email address. Please provide your best contact email. Note: Our appointments are allocated based on the date your registration is completed, not the date of your website enquiry.

What are your fees?

Our consultation fees ranges from $160 to $280 per 50 minutes consultations, on a sliding scale depending on the psychologist or provisional psychologist you will see. We will provide you with our fee structure in our email. Please note that we do not offer definitive quotes for assessments as the final cost depends on discussions with your psychologist.

What is your current waiting time?
Waiting times vary depending on the time of year (some months are busier) and the availability of suitable psychologists. By providing your information, we can best match you with a psychologist. Our team regularly reviews the waiting list, so please check your email for updates. We do not prioritize clients to ensure fairness.

Are after-school appointments available?
Our scheduling team works hard to accommodate client needs. However, after-school spots are very popular and are generally prioritized for our existing clients to help them fit appointments into their schedules.

What if the waiting time is too long?
We understand your concerns and the urgency of seeking support. We aim to help you as soon as possible. We offer the option of seeing our Provisional Psychologists, who often have shorter waiting times and lower fees. Every client seen by a Provisional Psychologist receives supervised care from our Principal Psychologist. Please let us know if you'd be interested in this option.

Can I use NDIS, Mental Health Care Plans, Private Health Insurance, or Medicare together?
Navigating payment options can be complex. Here's what you need to know:
•    Assessments: Mental Health Care Plans (MHCPs) cannot be used to claim rebates for assessments. However, if you are under 25 and have a referral from a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for an Autism assessment, you may be able to claim some costs back.
•    Combining Plans:

o    You cannot use a Mental Health Care Plan to 'top up' a Private Health Insurance claim for the same service.
o    It is generally not advisable to combine an MHCP with an NDIS Plan. NDIS funds psychology services specifically for disability support, which is distinct from mental health treatment covered by an MHCP.

•    For more detailed information, please refer to AAPi's document on NDIS and Medicare (2025).

Who will I be seeing?
You can learn more about our team members and their specialties on our Meet Our Team page.

Who are Provisional Psychologists, and why should I consider them?
•    What is a Provisional Psychologist? A Provisional Psychologist has completed a minimum of five years of university-level psychology studies and is undertaking a professional internship (similar to medical residents). They complete 1000 hours of supervised practice under a senior, Psychology Board Approved Supervisor, ensuring high standards of care. All psychologists are regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
•    What can they help with? Our Provisional Psychologists are qualified and skilled in mental health assessments and interventions, with experience in counseling and disability support. They are proficient in evidence-based methods and can assist with various concerns, including assessments, reports, and group programs.
•    Benefits: While Provisional Psychologists cannot offer Medicare or Private Health rebates, their services are typically lower cost. There is also no maximum session limit, providing flexible and accessible support.

Can I see a specific psychologist?
We completely understand if you have a preferred psychologist in mind! While we respect your choice, it's worth considering that some clinicians have longer waiting lists due to high demand.

You might want to weigh the importance of accessing support sooner against waiting for a specific vacancy. We can offer you the option of seeing one of our Provisional Psychologists for interim support. They often have shorter waiting times and can provide excellent care while you wait for your preferred clinician or time slot.

If you'd like to be placed on a waiting list for a specific psychologist or time, please let us know. We'll inform you as soon as an opening becomes available, following our standard client registration process.

Do you offer crisis support?

Sprout Psychology Melbourne isn't a crisis service. This means we can't provide immediate appointments, court reports, or urgent assessments.
If you need urgent support, please contact:
•    Lifeline: 13 11 14
•    Beyond Blue: 1300 22 46 36
You can also find more resources, including information in English and Chinese, on our blog post here.

Do you bulk bill?

Unfortunately, we do not bulk bill. For government-funded support, we recommend exploring services like Headspace.
